Why did DAP prices increase so much in India?
DAP prices rose sharply in 2021–2024 due to: Russia-Ukraine war disrupting supply chains, high natural gas prices increasing production costs, INR depreciation increasing import costs, and logistic bottlenecks. The government increased NBS subsidy to partially cushion farmer prices, but market prices remain elevated.
Is granular SSP a substitute for DAP in India?
Single Super Phosphate (SSP) is a partial substitute — it provides phosphate (P₂O₅ 16%) but less nitrogen than DAP. For phosphate requirement per acre, SSP needs larger volume. SSP has the advantage of also providing sulphur (11%), making it preferred for sulphur-deficient soils.
